Financial-Five Secrets to Make It A Celebration of Your Financial Independence

Financial- Wow it seem almost unbelievable  that we have celebrated  37 years of Independence- And I have been here to see all these years - what about you?

Independence is defined by Dictionary.com as the “freedom from the control, influence, support and aid of others.” And this is a great time to celebrate your many freedoms.

  • You have been given the Freedom to live in a free and democratic society.
  • You have been given the freedom to dream and to build the life you want!
  • You have the freedom to make something wonderful of your life and your community.
  • You have the freedom to do whatever you want!
But this freedom didn’t “just happen” it was won by the struggle of great men and women like the late Right Honorable Sir Lynden Pindling, Sir Milo Butler, Sir Cecil Wallace-Whitfield, Dame Bertha Isaacs and Dame Doris Johnson.

Another person that factored in our independence but not so celebrated at this time is Sir Stafford  Sands – he is credited with making tourism an integral part of our economic life. And as our number one industry Tourism has enabled countless Bahamians to move up the socioeconomic ladder.

And now its up to you to ensure that you achieve financial independence! What is financial independence you ask?
  • Its the freedom  to dream and create the live lifestyle you desire.
  • Its the freedom to move from living pay cheques to  pay cheque.
  • Its the freedom from debt and paying your future income to others.
  • Its the freedom to do have the time to deepen your relationships with family and friends.
  • Its the freedom to give a helping hand to those who are less fortunate.
  • Its the freedom from financial stress and worry.
But financial freedom comes at a great price and fortunately its a price you can afford!

And this Independence is a good time for reflections and stocktaking; for reviewing your progress and reevaluating your goals; and making any adjustments you need to embrace fully this gift of freedom.

Why not take some time to decide on what you really want out of life and begin taking the steps that are necessary for you to make your dreams a reality.  And the steps are really simple:

  1. Have a spirit of gratitude!

    There is nothing like the power of gratitude. So appreciate what you do have  and what's already working in your life  - Then Give Thanks!

  2. Summer clean your life!

    You have to get rid of the debts that you have created for yourself; the relationships that are draining the energy that you could be using to build a business or get the education you need; and the negative thoughts that are causing you not to believe in your dreams. 

  3. Decide on what you want in your life! 

    You are only limited by your own dreams and your own ability and desire to work.  So decide what you really want out of life and begin to make it happen!

  4. Believe Financial freedom is possible.

    You don’t have to work 40 – 60 hours a week for 40 years making someone else rich then retire with very little to show for it. You can use that same energy to propel yourself to financial independence and I assure you it won’t take 40 years. Decide on the path that you will take to declare your freedom and independence.

  5. Start moving! 

    Whatever you decide to do will not happen until you take action.  So what will you do today to move you towards your dreams?  If you need help then get it. Remember that independence does not mean that you have to do it all by yourself it only means you have the choice of what you do. 

    So if you need help in managing your money, get it! If you need help with habits you have developed, get it! If you need help getting out of debt get it!  Taking Control of Your Money workbook is a good resource to help you get started

Let this Independence Day be a celebration of Independence – Yours!

Let it be the day you decide to use the freedom won by your forefather to liberate yourself and family financially.
